My retro Los Angeles screenprint features a loose line drawing of a 1950's storefront in bright cartoon colors: electric blue, bubblegum pink and sunlit stucco.
I drew this herky-jerky ink sketch from life right in Beautiful Downtown Burbank. I enlarged the drawing and had a film positive made, one for each color, so I could silkscreen print it by hand in the bold, playful, colors of Southern California.
There are lots of So Cal strip mall architectural details in this print: the nonchalant, jumbled use of rock face textures, the harsh shadows, and the ubiquitous alarm company logo which you can see in the lower-left corner of the plate glass window.
