The Five Boroughs #36

My illustrations of the five boroughs, hand printed in Prussian blue over gorgeous streaks of rainy gray, cold sea green and a wash of violet on 11x14" heavy white cardstock.

These prints were a fun collaboration with one of my favorite buyers!

I drew the Williamsburg Bridge (Brooklyn) with the sun behind it; Devil's Gate (The Bronx) and a row of houses; the Queensboro/Ed Koch Bridge (Queens) with the Unisphere; Gapstow Bridge (Manhattan) in Central Park; and a ferry (Staten Island) with the Manhattan skyline.

These unusual screenprints remind me of time-lapse photography, where the sky and sea seem to rush past while constructed objects hold still. They're also a nod to those midcentury souvenir tea towels!
